FunPlus PhoeniX, one of the largest Chinese esports organizations, is entering the VALORANT scene with an exciting roster. FunPlus PhoeniX first saw success in 2019 in the League of Legends scene when the organization’s Chinese roster won Worlds.
The five players that will wear the FunPlus PhoeniX jersey will be Pontus “Zyppan” Eek, Kirill “ANGE1” Karasiow, Andrei “Shaolele” Shao Kiprskii, johan “Meddo” Renbjörk Lundborg, and Tobias “shadow” Flodström. Every player apart from Shaolele is moving from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene. Meddo and shadow last played together for FABRIKEN in VALORANT.
Fans of first-person shooters will be familiar with one name in the lineup in ANGE1. The Ukrainian had a storied career across both CS:GO and CS 1.6. He played for team like Virtus.Pro and Astana Dragons, but found notoriety with Hellraisers. He hasn’t played a professional CS:GO match since April. ANGE1 left CS:GO having never won a major despite having such a long and tenured career.
The Chinese based organization will now join other groups such as Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid, TSM, and T1 in fielding a VALORANT roster as the game sees continued growth in the competitive scene.
FPX aren’t completely foreign in the FPS world, as the team currently employs a CS:GO roster. The organization has still seen the most success on the League stage.
The roster is expected to debut at the Allied Esports Odyssey tournament.
