There was no patch in Season 10 players were this excited about as it is with Patch 10.16. Mostly because of the fact Yone is finally coming, and everyone wants to try and play the new champion. Besides that, it is also one of the biggest patches ever, with twenty four champions listed for buffs and nerfs. This is mainly with the goal of diversifying the summer playoffs, according to Riot. Since a number of top laners are receiving buffs and nerfs with this patch, we are here with details on what that means for your top lane game

Detailed Patch Preview

As always, Mark Yetter, Riot’s gameplay designer, shared the detailed update list with us, making it possible to make this early tier list for League of Legends Patch 10.16.

7 Best Top Laners to Play in Patch 10.16

We give you top laners you want to play in this patch. This tier list is not an official list, since it is based on our preferences, along with win rate and pick rate stats. It includes the best top laners from S+, S, and D tiers.

Shen (S+ Tier)

The latest patch has brought Shen a buff, and thanks to that he remained among the best top laners in the game. To remind you, his shield value got almost doubled which is great for his laning phase, helping him get lane priority. With this added protection, he can counter Darius or Quinn with no problem. All of that allows him to use his ultimate, affect the whole map and apply even more pressure. Not to mention that when he uses his Teleport, it seems like he’s all over the map.

Darius (S+ Tier)

Darius won’t be getting buffs in the upcoming patch since he is already pretty OP. His R and passive make such a powerful combination, other top laners tend to avoid him. At the moment, Darius’ ban rate stands at an extremely high 44.5%

Volibear (S+ Tier)

Volibear is a strong pick in the current meta and will remain one despite the nerf on his Q ability movement speed in this patch. This is not something that will affect his pick rate, because his damage and domination potential remain high.

Fiora (S Tier)

This champion is going to get buff on her Q in the upcoming, that will get her CR, along with a refund when hitting an enemy. With an already high skill cap, her great dueling and split pushing power, her play is often the game’s turning point.

Jax (S Tier)

Patch 10.16 is bringing a reduced cooldown rate for Jax, another strong split pusher and duelist. Even though it doesn’t seem like a big buff, it will make him more viable in this tank-dominated lane. With a lower cooldown, his dueling power is surely going to increase.

Malphite (S Tier)

With a recent buff on his shield, Malphite remains a good pick, especially if you’re playing with a partner. Since he is able to build full armor, his shield abilities can reject poking in the lane. His lane enemies have always had a hard time dealing with his ultimate, and playing in a pair makes him even harder to stop.

Irelia (D Tier)

With a couple of important buffs in the 10.15 patch, Irelia’s pick rate has recently increased to 6.5% and her ban rate went to 9.5%. She is a flex champion, allowing her to play solo in the lane but she can also carry the game if fed. If you want to play Irelia properly, that will require some knowledge of her mechanical skills and a couple of practice hours.
